After your metal detector, a pinpointer is the most important tool you own. Your metal detector tells you where to dig; the pinpointer tells you exactly where the find is in the hole or the loose soil. As a result, you dig smaller holes, find your target faster and are less likely to damage coins and other objects. Then choose the XP MI-6. You pair this pinpointer wirelessly with your XP DEUS II, DEUS or ORX. You hear the pinpointer's signal in your headphones, adjust the sensitivity with the remote control and can find a lost pinpointer, even when it is switched off. The MI-6 is waterproof to 6 metres, so it is also suitable for the beach and shallow water. The XP MI-4 is the simpler version without wireless pairing and without the lost-pinpointer alarm. The Nokta AccuPoint connects via Bluetooth to compatible Nokta detectors, such as the Simplex BT, Simplex ULTRA and Legend 2, so you hear the signal through your detector or wireless headphones. Looking for a simple, waterproof pinpointer that works with any brand? Then the Nokta Pointer is a good choice.
A stand-alone pinpointer works with any metal detector. The Garrett Pro-Pointer has been one of the best-known and most reliable pinpointers for years and is ideal if you use several detectors or are just starting out. Using a Garrett detector with Z-Lynk? With the Garrett AT Z-Lynk you hear the pinpointer signal through your wireless Z-Lynk headphones. Looking for an affordable entry-level model? The Quest X-Pointer is a good choice. If you want more, the Quest XPointer Max is fully waterproof to 5 metres, rechargeable and has a display.

It isn't required, but it is highly recommended. Without a pinpointer you often spend minutes searching a hole. With a pinpointer you find the target in seconds and dig smaller holes, which is better for the land and for your finds.
A stand-alone pinpointer works with any detector. Wireless features, such as hearing the signal in your headphones, only work with detectors of the same brand, for example the XP MI-6 with an XP DEUS II, DEUS or ORX.

Only if it is designed for it. Check the waterproof rating: the XP MI-6, for example, is waterproof to 6 metres. Not every pinpointer is fully suitable for underwater use. Want to dive or snorkel as well? The Nokta PulseDive (a 2-in-1 set with an underwater detector and pinpointer) and the Quest XPointer Pro are waterproof to 60 metres.
