Groundtech A2-GEO: 3D Ground Scanner, metal detector and geo-electric system in one
The Groundtech A2-GEO is the more advanced model within the A2 Series. This system combines a 3D Ground Scanner, an integrated Pulse Induction metal detector and a geo-electric resistivity system in one device.
This allows you not only to investigate metal objects and ground anomalies, but also to analyse deeper underground structures. These may include cavities, tunnels, rooms, caves and other anomalies beneath the surface.
Three investigation technologies in one system
The Groundtech A2-GEO combines three different technologies:
- 3D Ground Scanning: for measuring and analysing ground anomalies and underground structures.
- Pulse Induction metal detection: for searching for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Geo-electric resistivity measurement: for additional investigation of deeper structures and differences in the ground.
This makes the A2-GEO particularly interesting for users who want to carry out more extensive ground investigations than is possible with a traditional metal detector or standard 3D Ground Scanner.
Eight different scanning and investigation modes
The A2-GEO includes the six scanning functions of the A2 and adds two geo-electric resistivity modes.
- 3D Ground Scanning
- Detector Quick Scan
- Pinpointer Function
- Live Scanning
- Detector Advanced Scan
- 3D Ground Scanning Detector Mode
- Resistivity Automatic Scanning
- Resistivity Manual Scanning
This allows you to select the most suitable investigation method for each location and target.
Geo-electric system for deeper ground investigation
The main difference between the A2 and the A2-GEO is the integrated geo-electric resistivity system.
This system measures electrical resistance differences in the ground and can help identify changes in underground structures. Groundtech positions this function for investigating, among other things:
- underground rooms;
- tunnels;
- caves and cavities;
- ancient tomb structures;
- groundwater sources;
- other large underground anomalies.
The resistivity function can be used in both automatic and manual scanning modes.
3D Ground Scanning with MFS-3 Dual Sensor Technology
Like the standard A2, the A2-GEO features MFS-3 Dual Sensor Technology. This gradiometer system measures magnetic changes in the ground and helps locate underground objects and anomalies.
It can be used to investigate:
- buried metal objects;
- iron and steel;
- non-ferrous metals such as gold, silver and copper;
- underground rooms and cavities;
- tunnels and other underground structures.
Integrated Pulse Induction metal detector
The A2-GEO also includes an integrated Pulse Induction metal detector operating at 1 kHz.
This allows you to detect both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Quick Scan is suitable for rapidly checking an area, while Advanced Scan provides more detailed settings for more focused investigation.
Live Scan for quick site investigation
With the Live Scanning Function, you can view graphical responses directly while moving across an area. This means you do not always need to complete a full scan pattern before determining whether a location is worth investigating further.
Live Scan is therefore useful for an initial survey before carrying out a more detailed 3D scan or resistivity measurement.
Pinpointer function for more precise localisation
Once an interesting object or anomaly has been found, the integrated Pinpointer Function helps narrow down the position more accurately.
This allows you to move step by step from a larger investigation area to a more specific target location.
3D analysis with Groundtech G-Portal
Measurement results can be viewed and analysed using the Groundtech G-Portal app, available for Android and iOS.
The software presents scanning results graphically and supports 3D analysis. This makes it easier to assess differences in ground responses and possible underground objects or structures.
Results from the geo-electric system can also be analysed using Groundtech software.
Scanning depth up to a maximum of 20 metres*
Groundtech states a possible scanning depth of up to 20 metres for the 3D scanning system.
This should not be considered a fixed detection depth. Actual achievable depth depends on factors including:
- the size and mass of the target;
- the type of object or underground structure;
- ground composition and mineralisation;
- the scanning method selected;
- measurement quality;
- operator experience.
*Maximum scanning depth depends on conditions and the type of target. Small metal objects will of course not be detected at the maximum stated depth.
Resistivity measurement with four measurement lines
The A2-GEO geo-electric system uses a four-line measurement system. This makes it possible to combine multiple measurement points to analyse differences in the electrical resistance of the ground.
According to Groundtech, the resistivity system has an output of 100 V / 66 mA, a frequency of 62 Hz and a sample interval of 50.
Multi-language operation
According to the manufacturer, the Groundtech A2-GEO supports 11 languages on the device. The mobile application supports 25 languages.
This makes the system accessible to users from many different countries.
Wireless Bluetooth connection
The A2-GEO features Bluetooth 4.2 BLE for communication with compatible mobile devices and Groundtech software.
This allows measurement data to be transferred for further graphical and 3D analysis.
Rechargeable and suitable for extended search sessions
The Groundtech A2-GEO is equipped with a rechargeable 3.7 V lithium-ion battery.
Groundtech states an approximate operating time of:
- 6 hours when using the Pulse Induction detector system;
- 10 hours when using the other systems.
Charging is carried out using a USB-C 25W charging adapter.
Groundtech A2 or A2-GEO?
The Groundtech A2 combines a 3D Ground Scanner with an integrated Pulse Induction metal detector.
The Groundtech A2-GEO adds a complete geo-electric resistivity system. This means that, in addition to metal objects and magnetic ground anomalies, you can also investigate deeper underground structures.
If you mainly want to work with 3D scanning and metal detection, the A2 already offers a comprehensive solution. If you also want to investigate tunnels, cavities, possible water sources and other deeper underground structures using resistivity measurements, the A2-GEO is the more complete model.
